Triumph was built by Jim Melcher and his family in 1969 in Orleans MA from plans drawn by the acclaimed Lower Cape marine architect, Peter Culler. The boat is perfect for the shallow waters of Pleasant Bay as it can operate in as little as 2 1/2 feet of water, due to its leeboards and small skeg. This is a double masted, gaff rigged 46' wooden ketch with a jib, main and mizzen and it sleeps six in its cabin. It is comfortable with ten sailors onboard and crew.
For many years campers at Pleasant Bay Camp located on Little Pleasant Bay in South Orleans, MA enjoyed day sails to the Outside Beach (OSB) and other special day sails onboard the sturdy vessel. In the off season the Melcher family took the boat all the way down to Florida and Bermuda while the children were homeschooled on board.
Roger Carroll ( located in Chatham MA 508-432-8481) is arguably the most skilled wooden boat craftsman on Cape Cod, and he led the restoration of Triumph in 2022, Prior to the work by Carroll's Boat Shop, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum oversaw the rebuilding of Triumph's She is also sporting a brand new jib, new depth finder and compass. and the Members of Triumph Sails Inc painted the topsides in 2023. Thanks to the dedication of Roger Carroll and his entire team, Triumph is in better condition than she was when she was first built, with better wiring, motor and features she did not have before. In 2023 we upgraded Triumph with a new more environmentally sustainable head and she has comfortable cushions. In 2024 our goal is to stregthen both masts. This is a major expense and we need your support. New blocks and some new turnbuckels and full annual painting are also planned for 2024
Triumph is in a slip for the winter in Saquatucket Harbor, Harwich, MA and will enjoy two painting parties this year. We expect to hual her in the spring and put her in Roger Carool's Boat Shop for reparits.
